Cultural Art

Ruru have been enjoying exploring art in different cultures. 
Here are some pictures. R1 are exploring koru. R2 are looking at Samoan siapo. R3 are exploring the South African 'Big 5)' and R4 are looking at Japanese cherry blossom.

      Samoan comes from the word Samoa. Which is a country (island) in the Cook Islands not too far from New Zealand.
      Koru is the name for a shape used in Māori culture and art. It comes from a plant called a fern. If you want to see what they look like just search koru or fern and lots of pictures will come up.

    1. Kia ora Bella,
      The siapo is an art form from Samoa. It is a cloth made from tree bark (it's a really interesting process and takes a while). It is then decorated with traditional shapes and designs using dye made from the colours of different trees.
